Fleshing Out My Audience

As a person pursuing a career in the world of digital media, marketing, and sound design there is some range to the type of people I find myself attempting to appeal to. The first of these is one I’m quite familiar with. I would say that this is especially true for the marketing field but a person that could be a potential employer is an older millennial woman. This would be a very “girl boss” sort of woman with a direct attitude. She would be well versed in social media and probably have an instagram for her dog. This person would appreciate assertive communication and honest opinions. This person would not be compatible with shy personalities and slow talkers. She would be the type of person to curse in meetings but never in a crass way. I would best appeal to this type of person by being personable yet having clear and established boundaries. I would also have a clear message to give her every time I spoke and honestly limit the amount of questions I asked her. My SM face would have to be pretty relatable and maybe even a bit humorous for her to consider me an interesting person. This type of person is also very interested in your portfolio, she would want to know what tangible skills of yours that she can use in her business. She is also not the type of person you would want to argue with, she will win. She is not super detail oriented as long as you get your assigned work done in time she does not care where you do it or what methods you have to go about to achieve these results. She has kids and is recently divorced. She dresses business casual but will wear a suit when she needs to. She is more likely to zoom into a meeting than show up in person- she is simply too busy.

In addition to this person my audience in a more general sense are people that are indie in some regard. My content is targeted primarily towards music lovers and people that are active in their local music scene. These people are interested in music reviews, new releases and demos, and show schedules. These people are generally queer individuals with affinities towards abstracted art and poetry. These people are progressive and concerned with the state of their government systems and active members in their communities. Their professional style is very casual and these people probably work in careers involving other people and creativity, or they are baristas. They are also likely movie fanatics or video game enjoyers with an affinity for old and retro aesthetics.

I find that both of these people are very different but have an appreciation for hard work and passion towards a definable goal. Additionally I find that these people value humor and creativity. Both of these audiences would be able to connect to content that is relatable and at times critical even. To navigate appealing to these two I would have a blend of reviews and memes alongside images and updates of my “personal” life to maintain relatability. However I would be careful not to overshare or over criticize what I post.
